MINU~'ES <br />City Counc9.l <br />Apral llt 9 1982 <br />Amending Mr, Aanson suggested that the Co~cil amend the agenda to hear items <br />Agenda from the floor as there are numerous senior citizens present at the <br />meeting who wish to discuss senior citizen housing. <br />Non-Agenda <br />Item Noe a Mrs. Nardini introduced the ~ol7,owing resoluta.on and moved i.ts adoptzon: <br />RtiSOLUTION N0. 82~.1~-~8l~ - AMENDING THli AGENllA <br />TO HF.AR TTP:MS F'ROM 'PHI: FLOOFt <br />The foregoing resolution was du].y seconded by Mrs. Scalze. <br />Ayes (5) Nardini, Scalxe~ Hanson, E'orsberg9 F~hey, <br />Nayes (0), <br />Reso~ution declared adopted, <br />This resolution appears in Resolution Book Noa 8, Page ~.30. <br />Senior Mrs. Johanna Gallagher appeared before the Council and asked that the <br />Citizen Co~cil discuss the letter she has sent them xegarding senior citizen <br />Housing housing and answer the questions which she raised in this letter. <br />Non-Agenda Mr. Hanson read the ].etter to the audience. <br />Item N~, 2 <br />Hanson commented that the total Council is elected to do a job <br />Mr <br /> , <br />~~,r the good of the community and that represents totally the community. <br /> Hanson commented that when the CounciJ. c~zasadered the Jackson Street <br /> property for senior citizen housing~ it was necessaxy to rezone the <br /> property and the people i.n the neighborhood were not interested. <br /> Gallagher stated that the senior~ did not have an opportunity <br />Mrs <br /> . <br />to visit with the neighbors of the Jackson Street property. Hanson <br /> repl:led that a public hearing was held and that would have been the <br /> time to visit. <br /> 5ca~.ze suggested that rather than rehash what has happeY~lin the <br />Mrs <br /> . <br />past, the Council and seniors should be looking to what can be done <br /> in the future. <br />Mr, Aanson stated that he is convinced there is a need for seniar <br />housing9 but fe].t that if the Council or a future CounciJ, was successful <br />in obtaining the housing' he did not know if it would be a sexva.ce or <br />disservice to the CityQS seniors. NIx. Hanson told the seniors that <br />if the housing is built and Little Canada seniors do not get in, they <br />should not blame the Council. for thi.s. Hanson stated that when F'ederal <br />government subsidies are i.nvolved, there are qu~.lifications that must <br />be met, Hanson stated that when a senior sel~s his or her home they <br />may end up with too mnch money to get ixitp the housing. <br />Mrs. Gallagher stated that the seni.ors are aware of al1 thiss and it <br />is not as bad as the Mayor is making it sound. <br />Page tib» <br />
