Chapter 916: Signs <br /> <br />Page 916-4 <br />14. Identification Sign. A small, incidental sign used to display essential information <br />about a property or business, typically including names, addresses, or other <br />identifiers, to help identify the premises. <br />15. Illuminated Sign. Any sign which is lighted by an artificial light source either <br />directed upon it or illuminated from an interior source. <br />16. Institutional Sign. A sign which identifies the name and other characteristics of a <br />public or semi-public institution on the site where the sign is located. <br />17. Integral Sign. A sign carved into stone, concrete or similar material or made of <br />other permanent type construction and made an integral part of the structure. <br />18. Legal Non-Conforming Sign. Any lawfully established sign, which, on the <br />effective date of the ordinance from which this article is derived, or amendment <br />thereof, does not comply with the sign regulations of the zoning district in which <br />such sign is located. <br />19. Letter Height. The vertical measurement of individual characters or letters <br />displayed on a dynamic billboard, expressed in inches. Letter height is a critical <br />factor in ensuring legibility and visibility from a specified distance, influencing <br />how effectively the message can be read by viewers. <br />20. Noncommercial Sign. A sign not classified as commercial speech which include, <br />but are not limited to, messages concerning political, religious, social, ideological, <br />public service, and informational topics. <br />21. Off-Premises Sign. A sign advertising goods, services, or facilities available at a <br />different location from where the sign is installed. <br />22. Off-site real estate sign. A sign advertising the sale, lease, or rental of real estate <br />for single or multiple-family housing developments located off the premises where <br />the sign is located. <br />23. On-site real estate sign. A sign advertising the sale, lease, or rental of real estate <br />upon which the sign is located. <br />24. Permanent Sign. A sign attached to a building, structure, or the ground, which is <br />constructed of durable materials intended for long-term use. <br />25. Portable Sign. A movable sign that is not permanently attached to a structure or <br />the ground. <br />26. Projecting Sign. A sign, other than a wall sign, which is affixed to a building and <br />which extends perpendicular from the building wall. <br />27. Public Sign. A sign erected and maintained by or on behalf of a government entity <br />within the public right-of-way. This includes traffic directional signs. <br />28. Roof Signs. Any sign erected and constructed wholly on and above the roof or <br />parapet of a building or structure, supported by the roof structure <br />29. Sign Face. The surface of a sign upon, against, or through which the message of <br />the sign is exhibited <br />30. Temporary Displays. Temporary displays or features that do not clearly fall into <br />the definition of a sign, but which direct attention to a product, place, activity, <br />business, person, institution, or organization. Temporary displays include three- <br />dimensional shapes, inflatable objects, search lights, and other similar devices. <br />31. Temporary Sign. Any sign which is erected or displayed on a non-permanent basis <br />for a limited period of time.
