MiNUTES <br />City Counci.l <br />Apri.l 7.7, 1983 <br />Pree Stancting Mr. Jir.ody stated that it is their feeling that businesses in a F3-3 <br />Signs (ConC.) zoni.ng, di.sT.ri.ct should be aLlowed to put up si_gns i.denCiSying thei.r <br />business. Mrs. Scalze commented that perhaps if the Little Canada <br />T4a7.1 had put up the sign tha[ they were al.l.owecl, tliis would have <br />broughr. them some business. <br />Mr. Iirody reported that the new ordi.nance sca7.es tkte sign all.owed to <br />the si.ze of the bui.l.di.ng. <br />Mrs. Scalze stated that the problem wi.th r.his i.s that Levitz would <br />be alLowed a very large sign and a small busi.ness a ver.y small si.gn, <br />The Planner st:ated that the ordi.nance provides f:or a maximum si.2e <br />sign allowed. <br />Mr. I~ahey asl<ed kiow the proposed amendment would effecc the businesses <br />on Rice St:reet. Mr. t3rody presented pictures of other si.gns located <br />in the C~i_ty. <br />Mrs. Nar.di.ni aslced about windo~a si.gns. The Planner repLied thaT. the <br />presenC orctinance does not put a restr.iction on wi.ndow signs. Mr.. <br />Li.cht reporCed that he had suggested to the Little Canada Mall that <br />the wi.ndo~a clutter becomes a problem because i.[ competes wi.th <br />i.dentif.icati.on signs. <br />Mr. Licht stated that he has not talcen a posi.ti.on relative to the <br />size of. the si.gns proposed. klocaever, he feels that the actions talcen <br />by the Li.ttl.e Canada Mall are positi.ve. <br />Licht stated that t:he ordinance offers an area of compromi.se in that <br />i.t l.i.mits *ai.ndow si.gns. <br />Mrs. Narda.ni. aslced if the Ci.ty can enf.orce the li.mitati.on of window <br />s:i.gns tmcler the present ordi.nance. The Planner r.epl.i.ed that the <br />current. ordinance is vap,ue on thi.s :i.ssue and the proposed ordinance <br />clari.fi.es it. I.,i.cht also star.ed that wi.ndo~o signs shoul.d be gearect <br />co pedesr.rian traf:fic. <br />Mr. Flanson stated that he felt the proposed or.dinance was a positive <br />step in the ri_ght direction. <br />Mr. Pahey pointed out thaY. the pi.ctures presented by Mr. Brody show <br />thrat the businesses on Ri.ce Street are ei.ther at or above ~ohat the <br />current s:i.gn ordinance al.l.ows. <br />Mr. Forsberg stated that he feels the probl.em 1:Les with portabl.e signs. <br />^1rs.
