MINUTES <br />City Council <br />April 27, 1983 <br />North Mrs. Scalze pointed out that in today's marlcet apartments are not paying <br />SuUurban Corp. for themselves and are being sold. Nardini stated that the Ci.ty would <br />(Cont.) get owner occupi.ed housi.ng sooner wi.th townhouses and quads. <br />Mr. Dobney expl.aine<1 that the quads and townhouses would be managed by <br />a homeowners associ.ation. <br />Mr. Pierce asiced how much the use of the present R-1 property would <br />be increased by the proposed zoni.ng change. Scalze replied that the <br />number of units would be increased from 29 to 76. Mr. I'ahey pointed <br />out T.hat this is trigLe the use than allowed under the present zoni.ng. <br />Mr. ]?ahey again stated that he did not see the benefi.t of. the proposal. <br />to the Ci.ty. There are the added concerns that Mr. PratCalone wi.ll <br />want the same treatment in the f.uture and the people on Iona Lane <br />will be mor.e impacted. <br />Mr. Ilerp,strom pointed out that he too has been paying taxes on his <br />property for a long period of ti.me. <br />Mr. Schultz, a resident of the area~ asked how l.onp, the cu1-cle-sac <br />would be. Mr. Schri.er replied that one eaoulc! be 1,200 f.eet ].ong <br />and the other about 1,000 feet long. Mr. Licht pointed out that <br />the 1.,000 foot ].ong cul-de-sac would be a private street. <br />Mr. Schultz stated that he was against such a lonp, cul-de-sac and <br />pointed out that the Ci.ty would not allow Chi.s situation on Park <br />Street in the past. <br />The Planner stated that he did not recommend that such a long cul.-de-sac <br />be alLowed. <br />Mr. Schrier sT.aCed that there was a problem wi.th talci.ng traffi.c out <br />to the west on the rai.lroad property. Mr, Schri.er also stated Chat <br />even ].on,n,er cul-de-sacs t:han what i.s bei.ng proposed are al.l.owed in <br />other ci.ties. Mr. Schrier pointed ouC that the I?I.anning Commission <br />felt that the cul-de-sacs should be 1i.nlced together for emergency <br />purposes. Mr. Schrier stated that it o~as not good planni.ng to mix <br />the two traffic areas and could present a problem for Mr. L'rattalone's <br />access to County Road C. <br />Y4r. Schultz statecl that by linlcing the two cul-de-sacs i.t woulct make <br />Lor. bi.gger Lots and rec(uce the number. of people. Mr. Dobney disagreed. <br />Mrs. Scalze stated that part of the concern on Park Street was the <br />commerci.al proper.Cy and the probl.ems of: having commerc~ial traffic on <br />a cul-de-sac. <br />Mr. PorsUerg stated that he di.d not want to see a L50 unit apartment <br />bui.lcl~ing ~.i.n the City. <br />Page -6- <br />
