Olson i.nf.ormed the Council that she has t:abulations <br />(Cont,) of bi.ds on sprinlcler systems for the buildi.ngs Lor their inf:ormation. <br />Al.so OLson pointed out that most communi.ties have not adopted Appendix <br />E and she submitted to the Council a map ouClining this. <br />Olson stated that the decision that Chese two must sprinkler their <br />buil.din~s was tmfair. to Chem as they were not given notice that the <br />City would be consi.der.ing Appendi.x E. Ol.son also asl.ced the Council. <br />to consider the costs involved. <br />Ms. Olson s[ated that there are several businessmen Lrom the City <br />present who wi.sh to speak on this topic and the i.mpact they f.eel it <br />has on them. Olson also stated that this could have a great ef.fect <br />on the future development i.n the Ci.ty. <br />Mr. Davi.d Germer of Townhouse Mai.ntenance appeared before the Council. <br />Mr. Germer reporCed that prior to buying the land in Little Canada <br />he consi.dered the costs of. bui.ldin~ i.n the City, Mr. Germer reported <br />thaC on September 28 the Council approved his building plans. Fle <br />began building the next day~ and that afternoon he was infor.med that <br />he will need a sprinkler system in his buildi.ng. <br />Mr, Germer pointed out that Appendix E went into effect on September. <br />27th and his building permit was i.ssued on September 2E3. <br />Germer stated that the costs of a spri.nkler s~stem for his building <br />wi11 be betcoeen $12,000 and $L8,000. The building i.tseLf cost <br />$38,000 to build. Germer felt that the benefits of the system <br />are not in line with the costs. Germer stated that he wi11 have <br />a 30-year pay-back on the system. <br />Germer poznted out that the system will not pr.event fire, but will <br />put it out. However, Germer stated that should he have a£ire that <br />was put out by the system, he would sti.ll. not hesitate to call in <br />the I'ire Department. <br />Mr. Germer f.~elt that Appendix E was restrictive to the sma11 <br />businessman. Germer expressed concern over the 2,000 square foot <br />figure i.n Appendix I?. Germer stated that he did not under.stand <br />why a hotel di.d not have to be spri.nklered unless it had over 8,500 <br />square feet, but a shop had ~o be with over 2,000 square feet. <br />Germer pointed out that the buildings involved are pole buildings <br />and there is not: that much combustibLe maCeri.al, <br />Germer stated that had he lcnown o£ this r.equirement~ he would not <br />have come to Little Canada< Germer stated that the requirement o~as <br />not conveyed to him nor to his builder, <br />Mr. 13i11 Schif.sky appeared before the Counci.l.
