STAFF REPORT
1
TO:Mayor Fischer and Members of the City Council
FROM:Eric Seaburg, City Engineer
DATE:December 18, 2024
RE:2026 Little Canada Road Improvements
Project Update
BACKGROUND:
At the August 28th, 2024, City Council Meeting, City staff provided a project update to the City
Council. At that meeting, several members of the public were in attendance and when given the
opportunity to provide feedback to the Council, advocated strongly against the proposed realignment
of Country Drive. City staff heard similar feedback at other touchpoints with property owners over
the last several months.
In September, the proposed project was temporarily put on hold while the project team could look at
alternatives that were less impactful to property owners while still achieving the desired project goals,
which include safety, mobility, and congestion reduction. Since September, several design
alternatives were explored and one seems to have enough support from partner jurisdictions (Ramsey
County, MnDOT, FHWA) to advance into preliminary design.
At the City Council meeting, City staff will present the new design alternative and provide an
overview of what the path forward might look like.
STAFF RECOMMENDATIONS:
This item is for informational purposes. No council action is required.
