MINUTES
City Council
Sept. 4, 1985
1986 Budget Under the City Hall portion of the budget, it was suggested that the
City Hall salary for the janitor fall under the same schedule as part-time
help in the Recreation and Utility Departments.
Senior Council was agreeable to the Senior Citizen portion of the budget.
Citizens
Community Under the Community Service portion of the budget, the Clerk reported
Service that the money budgeted for Cable TV is returned to the City by the
Cable TV franchise.
Mr. Blesener indicated that of the $1,000 budgeted for Canadian Days,
$500 should be allocated for the Police Relief Association, This
donation is requested by the Sheriff's Department in exchange for
their services during the Canadian Days Celebration.
Mr. Blesener pointed out that the City has $623 budgeted for the
Maplewood Home Share Program. However, this money may be reimbursed
to the City from any monies that are collected by the program.
Police, The Council was agreeable to the Police, Fire Marshall and Protective
Fire Marshall, Inspection portions of the 1986 budget.
Protective
Inspection Mr. Fahey pointed out the increase in the Hospitalization portion of
the Protective Inspection budget. Fahey stated that Mr. Nagovsky's
hospitalization was to be reimbursed in the same amount that is paid
for other employees' hospitalizationr and no more.
Animal In discussing the Animal Control portion of the budget, Mrs. Scalze
Control reported that she has been informed that when the dog catcher picks
up a dog, it is to be kept 5 days and then the animal goes to
animal research. The animal control agency is paid a lot of money
for large dogs that are turned over for research.
The problem arises in that Scalze has been informed that the dog
may not be kept on the premises of the animal control agency's nearest
facility. The dog may be transferred to several facilities during
the five-day period and thus makes it more difficult for the owner
to locate the animal.
Council discussed the possibility of the animal control agency
informing the City when it picks up a large animal and where that
animal will be located.
The City Clerk was instructed to send a letter to the agency requesting
that they adivse the City when they pick up a dog and where the animal
will be located during the five-day period.
Page -12-
