MIN[JTI'sS OF THG SPGCIAL M~GTING <br />CITY COUNCIL <br />LITTI.Ii CANADA, nINNESOTA <br />Pursuant to due call and notice thereof a speci.al. meeting of the <br />Council oE the City of Little Canada, Minnesota was held on the <br />2nd day oE October, 1985 in the Counci.l Chambers of the Ci.ty Center <br />located at 515 LiCtl.e Canada t2oad in said City. <br />October 2, 1985 <br />Mayor Michael Pahey chaired the meeting and called it to order at <br />6:30 P.M< and the follo~aing members were present at roll call: <br />MIsM13ERS PRESENT: <br />Mayor <br />Councilman <br />Counci.lman <br />Councilwoman <br />Councilwoman <br />Mr. Michael Pahey <br />Ntr. Wi.lliam Ulesener <br />Mr. Ricl< Collova <br />Mr, Mugs Nardini <br />Mrs, lleverl.y Scalze <br />ALSO PRP:SENT: <br />Redistricti.ng <br />City Clerk <br />Recordinp, Secretary <br />Mr. .Toseph Chlebeck <br />Mrs< Kathleen Glanzer <br />Of School Mayor Fahey reported that the purpose of tonight's meeting is to discuss <br />DisCri.ct whether or not the City should take a posiiion regarding the election on <br />October 15 to establish equal election districts within School Di.strict <br />G23. Pahey felt that the City Council should take a posiCion in favor <br />of the redistr:icti.ng. <br />Mr. Pahey pointed out that the cLosing of a high school caithin any city <br />would have a great impact on that city. Fahey pointed out the methods <br />by ~ohich the School ISoard went about closi.ng Kellogg High School posed <br />a question about the make-up of the School IIoard in terms of representatione <br />Pahey felt thaC redistricting caould be in the best interests oI Little <br />Canada and pointed out that the School. District has a cost overr.un of <br />about $1 million. Pahey felt that redistricting would enable the CiCy <br />Co greater in~ut into School Distr.ict: matters and try to ensure that <br />there are no other school closings or cut backs in curriculum. Pahey <br />felt that the City of Little Canada was not given a fair shake in the <br />Kellogg High School closin~;e <br />Fahey felc that the City Council should ur~;e the citizens of Little <br />Canada to support a system that will be fair Co all. residents of the <br />district and not just Li.ttle Canada. <br />I'ahey commentect that he was surprised by the League of Women Voters <br />r.ecent action opposing the redistricti.ng. Pahey Eel.t that the League <br />did not study the issue Lor the length o£ time that he would expect them <br />to study a 1oca1. issue< Pahey stated that he understood the League to <br />be an essentially non-partizan orp,aniz.ation~ and concerned more cai.th <br />national political issues that effect a broadersegmenC of the public. <br />Page -1- <br />
