MINUTES <br />CiCy Council <br />Oct. 2, 1985 <br />Redistr:icting Mr, Co1l.ova commented that at fir.st he Eelt uneasy about coming in and <br />(Cont.) endorsi.ng the redistri.cting issue as a Council, however, seeing ~ohat <br />other.organizations have done has make it easier. Collova stated that <br />he is in favor of redistricting and felt that endorsement of. the l.etter <br />is an eff.ort on the Council's part to get the vote for the "yes" position, <br />Pahey stated that he saw it as an historical i.ssue and pointed o~t Little <br />Canada's loss of a high school. rahey f.elt that it would be a missing <br />page of history if the Council did not cteclare how i.t felt about this <br />i.ssue. <br />Mrs. Scalze pointed ouC thaC the Superintendent of the Anoka County <br />School llistrict could not say enough i.n favor of r.edistrictin~. 'Phey have <br />done it and feel [hat the districe runs more smoothly, <br />Mr. Fahey had su~gested that the Council.members pay for repr.oduction oL <br />his letter per.sonalLy. nr. Col.lova stated that he felt that the City <br />Council should take a stand on the issue, but felt that the reproduction <br />of. the letters should be paic! for from City dollars. Collova pointed out <br />that the Council is elected to represen~ the peopleo The City Clerlc <br />commented that there woulct be no problem with the City paying for <br />reproctuction oL the letters. <br />Ms, Nardini stated that she is disappointecl in the action of the League <br />of Women Voters, however, she is a member of. the League, but was not at <br />the meeCing when this topic was di.scussed. Nardini. pointed out that the <br />League took a neutral position in the closi.ng of Ke1.logg High School and <br />shouLd have take a neutr.al posiCion in this matter as well. <br />L'ahey commented that the League of Women Voters has Lost credability <br />i.n his eyes by talcing a stand in this matter. <br />Mrs. Scalze introduced the fol.lowing resolution and moved its adoption: <br />RISOLUTION N0. E35-10-485 - ENDORSING TI-[E PROPOSED <br />LETTER TO LITTLE CANADA RLSIllENTS ON TIIE F2EDISTKICTING <br />ISSUE AS SUI3MITTED 13Y MAYOR PA}ITY AND DGCL,ARING THA'L <br />RBPRODUCTION OP 'PHE LE'PTER WILL BE PAID FOR WI'LFI CITY <br />I~UNDS AND THA'C COUNCILMEMIIERS WIi,L 'tAK~ CARE OP THE <br />DISTRII3UTION OF TI~IE I,GTTEK TO L~ITTLE CANADA RGSIDGNTS <br />The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Mr.. Blesener. <br />Ayes (5) Scalze, Alesener, Collova, Nardini, Pahey. <br />Nayes (0). <br />Resolution declared adopted. <br />Thi.s r.esolution appears in Resolution Book No. 12, Pages 501 and 502. <br />Page -3- <br />
