MI~OTES
City Council
Oct. 23, 1985
Little Canada The City Engineer reported that the bids for the Little Canada Road
Bridge bridge project are now scheduled to be opened in Febuary. This is
Project due to the City's removing the sidewalk and bike path from the
project.
Agenda
Addition The Engineer reported that the City has spent a lot of money having
the CounY.y drawn up, both the permanent and temporary easements.
The Engineer suggested that the City still obtain the easements, but
nothing would have to be done with them. Otherwise, new easements
will have to be drawn up. It would also take three or four weeks to
have the easements redescribed.
Mr. Fahey felt that the City should obtain the original easements.
Mr. Blesener asked if the easements would be necessary because of
underground utilities.
Mrs. Scalze asked how wide the easements would be. The Engineer
replied that they would be 6 feet wide in most cases. The City C1erk
stated that in the case of the Freeman property, they would be 11 feet
wide.
The Engineer stated that by cutting the size of the easement, the City
wi11 not cut the price. The Engineer suggested that he stake out the
curb and then the property owners will see where everything lies.
Fahey felt that given the expense of redoing the easements, he felt
the City should get the original easements and not spend additional
money.
Mrs.Scalze asked if the City wi11 go to condemnation to obtain the
easements if necessary.
Fahey asked how much money has been spent on drawing up the easements.
The Engineer estimated $5,000.
The Attorney reported that he has the appraisals for the easements, and
if the easements are changed, the appraisals will have to be redone
as well. Also, the State will have to change their map.
Mr.Blesener asked if the blacktop would be in the center of the easement.
The Engineer replied that it will be a little to one side.
The Attorney reported that if the City gets into condemnation, the
court may decide that the City does not need as much property as it
is taking. However, the Attorney felt that the City should go with
the easements it has drawn up.
Mrs. Scalze suggested that the City start with the easements that will
be the tou~hest to get.
Page -24-
