MINUTES
City Council
April 8, 1987
Bingo Fahey disagreed that the City was required to hold a formal hearing
(Cont.) as outlined by Mr. Grey.
Grey disagreed.
Fahey noted that the City only has the power to veto license applications,
and that the State is the granting body.
Grey pointed out that this procedure has no meaning in substance,
in that the State will grant or deny a licenses based on what the
City does.
Fahey asked Mr. Ed Amaro if he served as bingo manager for Como Youth
Hockey and in what capacity and if he was ever removed from his
position.
Amaro replied that he was bingo manager for 5 to 8 years. It was
a position that he agreed to temporarily fill, and indicated several
times that should a replacement be found, he would step aside.
Amaro reported that the organization was reorganized, and he was
taken up on his offer to resign.
Fahey asked if h1r. Amaro left the operation because the group was
dissatisfied with his performance.
Amaro replied that this was not the case and also noted that his
books were audited and found to be in order.
Fahey asked if Amaro maintained organizational funds in his private
checking account.
Amaro replied that he did not and noted that bingo was not his
source of living.
Scalze asked if Mr. Amaro signed the bingo license applications.
Amaro replied that he signed as gambling manager and the president
and other officers signed in their positions.
Scalze asked if it was Amaro's idea to resign.
Amaro replied that he believed it was.
Fahey asked if Amaro was removed from his position with the North
End Boxing Group.
Amaro replied that he was not gambling manager for the North End
Boxing Group, but only a bingo worker. Amaro stated that he
was a worker for this group for 5 or 6 years and that he was not
asked to resign. Amaro reported that he resigned because he was
becoming more and more involved at LCCB.
Page -16-
