MIMUTES
City Council
May 12, 1987
Don Gagne indicated that the property owners with undeveloped
property in the City need help to get their property developed
with a quality development. Gagne pointed out that the property
owners are not in a position to retain the property with the high
taxes they are paying.
Scalze pointed out that there is a large parcel on South Owasso
Blvd. that could be developed with metal buildings, and the City
should take steps to try to get quality development on this property.
Fahey commented that taxpay~ers may object to spending the kind of
money Business Development Services is seeking to develop this
vacant land.
Gagne pointed out the increased tax base that the City would gain
through the quality of development that would be sought.
Fahey felt that the City should pursue the proposal as it benefits
the City and businesses as a whole and not for ,just a couple of
pieces of vacant property.
Scalze pointed out that there are areas in the City that could be
redeveloped.
Larry Lee indicated that he still questioned the developability
of the Centerville Road area. Lee also pointed out that there are
areas in the City still available for development and hoped that
metal buildings would not be constructed on these sites pointing
out that these buildings do nothing for the rest of the City.
Lee reported that he has been trying to market the Gagne property
and would like to see a nice office building on the site, however,
has not come up with a user at this point. Lee reported that he has
someone interested in a 40,000 snuare foot site, but did not know
where he could locate such a building in Little Canada.
Fasciana suggested the Gervais property or Gagne property.
Lee reported that there was a paint operation involved, but he would
check with the Planner on it.
Maroney reported that if his firm worked on an hourly basis, the
cost would be between $50 and $75 per hour. Any financing packages
put together by the firm would be paid for by the developer.
Blesener asked if there would be a conflict of interest as the firm
works for neighboring cities.
Maroney replied that his firm would determine the types of projects
the City is interested in, and usually it is determined that different
communities have different goals, therefore, there would be no conflict
of interest.
Page -9-
