MINUTES
City Council
June 10, 19H7
Bingo
(Cont.)
Recess
Curbing
Concerns
Agenda
Item No. 7
CONTROL BOARD WHEM PRESENTED WITH THE
SUBJECT AGREEMENTS TO THE CITY CLERK
SIGNED BY THE INDIVIDUAL CHARITIES
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Mr. Fahey.
Ayes (4) LaValle, Fahey, Collova, Scalze.
~lays (1) Blesener.
Resolution declared adopted.
This resolution appears in Resolution Book No. 17, Page 267.
At this point in the meeting, 9:02 P.P1., Council took a short
recess. The meeting was reconvened at 9:10 P.P9. Also, Councilman
Collova left the meeting.
Mr. Fahey reported that there are concerns raised by residents
regarding the drive-over curbs that have been installed in the
area of Demont, Morrison and Savage Lane. Residents feel the
curbs are not adequate for driveway purposes and are damaging
cars.
The City Engineer reviewed a diagram of the curbs and reported
that the curbs meet State specifications. The curb being used
in this area is slightly higher and more rounded on top than
the curb that has been used in the majority of other areas in
the City. However, this same curb has been used on Aspen Grove
and Ontario Road. The Engineer felt that the problem arose due
to the fact that the people in the Demont, Plorrison and Savage
Lane areas have never had curbing and are not used to it. The
Engineer reported that this same curbing has been used in Shoreview,
Vadnais Heights and Roseville with no problems.
The Engineer reported that the first layer of blacktop has been
installed on the street, The next step is that driveways will
be replaced and then the final layer of blacktop will be installed.
Fahey suggested that after the project is comhleted the City
should review individual driveways and if there are problems,
the City could order curb cuts for the people who would like them.
The Engineer agreed that individual cases can be reviewed, and pointed
out that this has already been done in some instances.
Blesener suggested that in some instances it may be necessary to
have the top of the curb ground down.
The Engineer suggested that he review the situation and report back
to the Council. The Engineer also pointed out that those properties
with concrete driveways have already had their driveways replaced.
Page -10-
