MINUTES
City Council
Sept. 23, 1987
Recreation
Salaries
(Cont.)
Scalze also pointed out that the Recreation Directors are not being
compensated for their travel time nor the use of their own vehicles.
Scalze also pointed out that other City employees have lobbied for
salary increases in the past while Recreation has not.
Scalze outlined the increased participation in Recreation programs
since the early 1980's, with the projection of further increased
participation in the future.
Scalze pointed out that the Recreation Directors also have taken
over the responsibility of uniforms at no additional compensation,
and the fact that these directors do not receive any City benefits
in addition to their salaries.
Scalze outlined the salaries that P.oseville is paying its recr~ation
personnel and also the numbers of recreation personnel and the various
job classifications in that city's recreation department.
Scalze felt that Little Canada has an excellent system because of
the cooperation between the City's Recreation Department and the
Little Canada Recreation Association. This system keeps costs
down for the children participating in the recreation programs.
Scalze also pointed out that the Recreation Directors are members
of the City's Park Commission at no extra compensation.
Scalze proposed that the Recreation Directors receive the 29.25%
salary increase for 1987 retroactively, and that the Recreation
Director's salary be set at approximately $11.00 per hour with the
Assistant Directors at a salary somewhat less than that amount.
Mr. Blesener introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption:
RESOLUTION N0. 87-9-461 - REIMBURSING THE
RECREATION DIRECTORS FOR 1987 AT AN INCREASED
RATE OF 29.25% OVER THEIR 1986 SALARIES, tJHICH
WOULD AMOUNT TO $10,142 FOR THE RECREATION
DIRECTOR AND $4,677 FOR EACN ASSISTANT DIRECTOR
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Mr. Collova.
Ayes (5) Blesener, Collova, Fahey, Scalze, LaValle.
Nays (0).
Resolution declared adopted.
This resolution appears in Resolution Book No. 18, Page 487.
Mr. Blesener introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption:
Page -24-
