MINUTES <br />City Council <br />Oct. 14, 1987 <br />Center•ville Steve Mor~elan, r•epr•esenting the Recr•eation Association, r~eviewed for~ <br />Road Par•k the Council the Apr•il 21, 1987 letter• submitted to the Council by <br />Pr•oposal the Association pr•oposing the pur•chase of 25 to 30 acr•es of par•k <br />(Cont. ) pr~oper~ty i n the Center~vi 11 e Road ar•ea and thei r• r~easoni ng for~ why <br />the pur~chase should be made. <br />Mor•elan also r•epor•ted that it has been past policy of the Recr•eation <br />Association to assist the City financially in providing recreational <br />pr•ograms. The Recr~eation Association r•ealizes that the purchase of <br />this pr•oper•ty would be a substantial outlay for• the City and, therefor•e, <br />it has decided to contr~ibute $200,000 to the City to be used for~ the <br />development of this pr•oper•ty, and, if necessar•y, the acquisition of the <br />land. <br />Bill Sander•s, landscape ar•chitect and Park Commission member•, submitted <br />to the Council thr•ee alter•native concept plans for~ development of a <br />r~ecreational par~k with ballfields. Sander~s r•eviewed the thr~ee concepts <br />pointing out that each involves a differ•ent amount of land as well as <br />var•ying number•s of ballfields. <br />Sander~s explained that the fir•st concept plan involved 25.92 acr•es of <br />pr~oper•ty with 4 ballfields. Sander•s explained the plan, including <br />off-str•eet par•king that would be pr•ovided as well as a tr•ail system <br />and ponding ar•ea. The second concept plan involved 29.9 acr•es of <br />pr•oper•ty and 5 ballfields. Off-str•eet par•king, tr•ails, ponding ar~e <br />provided as well. <br />oCorrection Fahey noted that the fir~st concept in~l~d the pr•oper•ty nor~th of <br />Res. No. 87-10-~ntreal Courts up to and including 1~.es~-of the AIC property. The <br />505 second concept i ncl uded pr•oper•ty nor•th of Montr~eal Cour•ts up to and <br />including 2 lots of the AIC proper~ty. <br />Sander~s descr•ibed the thir•d concept and r•epor•ted that it included <br />pr•oper•ty nor~th of Montr•eal Cour•ts up to and i ncl udi ng 3 1 ots of the <br />AIC pr•oper~ty. This concept included 33.88 acr~es and 6 ballfields. <br />Sander~s descr~ibed the concept plan. <br />Fahey noted that none of these plans has been officially r•ecommended, <br />but ar~e only concepts for pur•poses of the public hear•ing. <br />Sander•s stated that the pur•pose of the concepts was to identify the <br />si zes of pr•oper•ty that woul d be r•equi r•ed, and noted that the Par•k <br />Commission has not studied any of these concepts in detail. <br />Scalze asked the size of the ballfields being pr•oposed. <br />Sander•s r•eplied that the fields would have a 300 foot dimension, which <br />is standar~d for~ softball play. Concepts 2 and 3 pr•ovide 100 feet between <br />fence lines. <br />Bob Voto, City Auditor, reviewed Exhibit A of the City's Capital Budget <br />document dated October~ 14, 1987, which outlined estimated monies <br />Page -3- <br />
