Voto r~eplied that without the appr~oximately $100,000 per~ year• <br />anticipated fr~om charitable gambling, the plan would not wor•k at <br />the $1.5 million level. <br />Fahey repor•ted that the City r•ecently pur~chased the Johnson/Mostad <br />pr~oper~ty and was able to obtain gr~ant money to fund a por~tion of <br />this purchase. <br />Scalze explained that the Johnsen pr•oper•ty was pur~chased in May of <br />1986 on a contr•act-for-deed by the City at a cost of $84,000 for• 9 <br />acr•es of pr•oper•ty. The Mostad pr~oper•ty was pur~chased at a cost of <br />$62,750 for• 6 acr~es. The Mostad pr•oper•ty was appr•ai sed by the Ci ty <br />at $55,500 and the City obtained a gr~ant fr•om the State and Feder•al <br />governments for• thr~ee-quar~ter•s of that appr~aisal pr•ice. The pr~oper•ty <br />owner has been asking $70,000 for the property. <br />Scal ze r•epor•ted that the Ci ty woul d pur•sue gr~ants for~ the devel opment <br />of the Centerville Road property, should the property be acquired <br />by the City. <br />For the public record, Fahey read letters which he has received from <br />citizens either~ for~ or• against the acquisition of the Center•ville <br />Road pr~oper•ty. These 1 etter•s wer•e fr•om Mr•. and Mr•s. Di ck Thomal l a <br />in favor• of the acquisition, Sher•yl Lambert in favor~, Pam Younghans <br />in favor•, an unsigned letter~ opposed, Gr•eg J. Wolf in favor~. Also <br />r•eceived was a petition signed by appr•oximately 90 childr•en in favor~ <br />of the Center~ville Road pr•oper~ty acquisition. <br />Fahey noted that the City has not negotiated a pur~chase pr~ice for• any <br />of the pr•oper•ti es i nvol ved. <br />Blesener• pointed out that the City Attor~ney at one point was author•ized <br />to tr•y to obtain option agr•eements on the pr•oper•ty, however•, this was <br />not accomplished as of tonight's meeting. <br />Fahey noted that the City does have an appr~aisal of the pr~oper~ty. <br />Fahey asked if ther•e was anyone fr~om the gener~al public pr~esent wishing <br />to addr~ess the Council on this matter•. <br />Ter•r•y Vi tal i, r~esi dent i n the ar•ea of the pr•oposed par~k, stated that <br />she was in favor~ of the pr•oposal. <br />Steve Hallgr•en, 3005 Center•ville Road, asked if the proper•ty cur•r~ently <br />for• sal e i n the ar~ea at a pr•i ce of $80,000 per acr•e was i ncl uded i n <br />the pr~oposal. <br />Fahey explained that the pr•oper•ty in question is located nor•th of <br />Page -5- <br />
