MINUTES
Council and Planninq Commission
~~ar•ch 10, 1988
Fahey did not feel that the City would appr•ove any rezoning without
knowing who would occupy the building.
Fahe,y stated that he was not excited about a lar~ge addition to the
City Center, noting that space for~ senior~ citizens could be located
at the Capitol View site. Fahey felt the Recreation Committee should
look into this issue as well.
Bor~g pointed out that ther•e wer~e a couple of possibilities in that
a line could be dr•awn separating the baseball fields and tennis cour•ts
fr~om the r~est of the Capitol View site and r•etaining this land as
Public. This would leave some gr•een space ar•ound the building.
The Chai r•man of the St. Ber•nar•d' s School 6oar•d r•epor•ted that i n the
past St. 6er~nar•d's has been a good neighbor• in their• community, and
he believed the City would find St. Ber•nar•d's easy to wor•k with in
sharing facilities and providing space for community services.
Jim Mor•elan corrmented that fr•om a par•k and r~ecr•eation standpoint, he
felt it impor•tant to r~etain the outdoor• ar•ea at Capitol View. He would
also like to pur•sue the inside ar•eas, but did not feel these facilities
were important for the City's recreational needs as the outdoor facilities
wer~e due to the maintenance costs involved.
Fahey also pointed out that thr•ough the addition onto the Little Canada
Elementar~y School, the City would be gaining another~ multi-pur•pose
r•oom.
Fahey asked if the School Distr•ict could pr•ovide the Recr•eation
Committee with diagr•ams of the inside of the Capitol View building.
Bor•g r•epl i ed that i t woul d.
Fahey r~epor•ted that a meeting of the Recr•eation Committee has been
scheduled for~ Mar•ch 16th.
