MINUTES
Council and Planning Commission
Mar•ch 10, 1988
Fahey asked the occupancy date for~ the Little Canada School addition.
Bor•g r•eplied that the School Distr•ict is consider•ing a September•, 1989
occupancy, but second semester• of the 1988/89 school year• is not out-
of-the-question.
Fahey asked for• a show of hands of those who feel the outdoor• r•ecr~eational
facilities should be retained for• City use. Those present wer~e unanymous
in their• feeling that these facilities should be r~etained for• community
use.
Fahey asked about the r•etention of indoor~ facilities should that pr•ove
feasible.
The vast majority of those pr•esent felt the indoor• facilities should
be r•etained if possible.
The City Clerk pointed out the consideration the City is giving to the
addition of space onto the City Center• for• senior• citizens. The Cler~k
pointed out that this space could be pr•ovided at Capitol View as well
as space for• other~ pr~ogr•ams, such as activities for• teenager•s.
Fahey pointed out the possibility that the City lease a por~tion of the
building.
Fahey stated that he would like to be in a position when the School
Distr~ict comes to the City with a pr~oposal to be able to tell the
School Distr•ict that any pr•oposal that does not r•etain the land to
the east of the building for• community use will not be favor•ably
r~ecei ved.
Scalze also pointed out that the City will have to go thr•ough public
hear•ings for• any r~ezoning of the pr•oper•ty.
DeLonais pointed out that if St. Ber~nar•d's purchased the building,
the City would be able to use the r•ecr~eational facilities at Capitol
View.
Davison stated that his least favor•ite option would be a r~ezoning of
the pr~oper•ty to B-3 PUD. Davison felt that this should not be done
until the possibilities of St. Ber•nar•d's or• Globe Business Colloge
occupying the site ar•e exhausted.
Davison asked the costs of an addition to Little Canada School. ~avison
also pointed out the City's negotiations for• the pur•chase of Spooner•
Par~k .
Davison stated that he would like to hold off on any r~ezonings for•
Capitol View until May lst, which would send a signal to St. fter•nar~d's
that the City is inter~ested and they should get moving. By that time
the City would also have additional inf,or•mation on costs of the school
addition and Spooner~ Par•k. Also, the City has not r•uled out the
possibility of Globe pur•chasing the site.
Page -8-
