MIPIUTES
City Council
April 13, 1988
favor~ of these acquisitions even if it meant tax incr•eases. Rlesener~
wondered if respondents would be in favor of tax increases if they were
necessar~y for• all the acquisitions planneci by the Cit,y.
Mor•r•i s r•epl i ed that i f a tax i ncr~ease i s necessar~y for• Spooner• Par•k,
residents would be very willing to support an increase. Feelings are
less clear• on the other~ acquisitions.
Mor~r~is r•epor•ted that the newcomer~s to the City ar•e white collar• pr•ofessionals
with higher• educations. This is wher~e the dr•iving for~ce for~ par•ks and
recr•eational facilities lie.
Rlesener• agreed and pointed out that in the newer~ developments in the
Ci ty ther~e ar•e a 1 ot of chi 1 dr~en.
Scalze pointed out that it is the newer resident in the City that does
not know what is available in ter•ms of r~ecr•eational facilities.
It was pointed out that unless a family has childr~en in school, a
resident is not aware of the City's recreational programs.
LaValle stated that he was ver•y pleased with the quality of the sur~ve,y.
Scalze reported that next Thursday at 6:30 P.M. Decision Resources will
be pr•esentinq the sur~vey r~esults to the Par~k Commission. If ther•e ar•e
additional questions for Decision Resour~ces, they can be pr•esented at
that time.
Voting Mike Hogerston, Rusiness Records, Inc., appeared before the Council and
P4achines demonstr•ated an optical scan voting machine that will be used in the
City during fall elections.
The City Cler•k r•epor•ted that the cost of the new system will be appr~oximately
$14,Q00 and the City has money budgeted for• this pur~chase. The Cler•k
r•epor~ted that it would be difficult to get ballots for• the City's old
machines as well as difficult to obtain ser~vice for~ these machines, and
r•ecommended that the Cit,y pur•chase the optical scan machines.
Ther•e being no fur•ther• business, the meeting was adjour~ned at 7:30 P.M.
Respectfully submitted,
~,'
~ ~ ' <<
~ ~' _ ~ ,~ ,
Katfiy Gl an"zer~ "
Recor~di ng Secr•etar•y
Page -6-
