MIDIUTFS OF TIIE WORKSIIOP MEETING <br />CITX COUNCIL AND FSRE DEPFIRTMENT <br />LITTLE CANADA, f4INNESOTII <br />June 29, 1~E8 <br />Pursu~nt to due call and notice thereoP a o~orkshop meeting of the City <br />Council and the Fire Department of the City of Little Canada, [4innesota <br />was held on the 2~3th day of June, 198II in the Fire Ha11 located at <br />4~0 Little Can~da Road in said City< <br />COUNCTL P4FP1I3~RS PRGSENT: Severly Scalze <br />k3i.11 Blesener <br />Rick Collova <br />Mayor P~iichael Fahey <br />(arrived 7:45 p.m,) <br />F1L50 PRESENT: Chief Frank Graczylc <br />lst Assistant Chief Diclc Boss <br />2nd Assistant Chief Jim Morelan <br />Other P7embers of the Little Canada <br />Fire Department <br />The meeting commenced at 7:30 p.m. <br />Chief Graczylc explained the history of the Fire Department's health and <br />4~elfare plan Fahich was first instituted by the Department in the 1990's <br />long before the modern day Relief Associations were established, The <br />nepartment put moneys earned from £und raisers (bingo, booya, dances, <br />etc,) as u~ell as donltions into this benefit fund. The Fire Department <br />recently took action to freeze the amounts in such fund and is presently <br />earmarking 35T of net gambling proceeds for contribution in~o the Relief <br />Association i'und, The remaining 65~ of net proceeds are being set aside <br />into a capital improvement and truck ~urchase fund. <br />Chiei- Graczyic explained the current condition of the Pire Ilall. and the <br />need to study whether the 20 feet acquired in the past by the City on the <br />east side of the building is sufficient to add a bay in the future due to <br />zoning setbacks, The Chief also stated that the ceiling and doors of the <br />Fire Hall are too lo~a to accommodate full-sized closed cab fire truclcs <br />which are likely to be a NFPA standard in the future, The Department is <br />studying whether it is feasible and cost efficient to raise the ceilinc~ of <br />the E'ire Department and add a bay or whether it would be more practical in <br />tkze long run to study major reconstruction of the fiall or a new fire ~aii, <br />The Fire Chief also reported that the Department had recently receivecl <br />donations from the Servants of C~iary and St. Joseph's >ociety for the <br />purchase of new turnout gear and fire call pagers for each of the <br />firemen, The total cost of these t4~o purchases was about 550,000 and will <br />go a long ~aay to bringing up the Little Canada Pire Depar~ment equipment <br />to ~.he standards present in surrounding communities. <br />The Chief explained that the Department recently purchased video equipment <br />for training purposes and is also purchasing a computer for assistance in <br />the inventory o£ buildings, location of Fire Department hookups and <br />uti.lities on bui~dings, all of which are designed to help the Fire <br />Department do a better job. <br />Pagc 1 <br />
