MINUTES
City F3a11/Fire I3a11 Expansions
April lII, 1989
Fire Hall Mr, Graczyk continued with his report indicating that the
Upgrading roof also needs to be repaired and the estimated cost of ~kie
(cont,) roof would be about 540,000. In addition, the bay doors are
too small and therefore must be replaced, and the building
is in need of caulking and painting on the outs9.de. No
estimated cost was given for these improvements.
It was also brought to the attention that the site itself
may not be auitable for additional expansion. Presently
there is a parking problem, If the Fire t4en park across the
street, it is dangerous. zf the Firemen park in the lower
level, ~he Firemen have to run a flight of steps in order to
get into the bay area, There is hardly any room in front of
the building to park, because that room is used for the
mobility of the fire trucks.
nue to new OSSA requirements the Firemen will have to load
into the trucks from inside of the building. Since the
ceiling was corrected, they may be able to do this. In the
past they were 1oac7ing into the trucks from outside of the
building. The Fire Department also mentioned that it may be
necessary for them to purchase a van to transport the
Firemen from the Fire Iia11 to the site of the fire, Since
we have trucks at ~hree locations, it caill be easier for the
Firemen to go to the fire Erom the Fire Hall ins~ead of
having to be divided into three locations.
Additionally, the pension plan will probably be reviewed
again. Tt appears, in the past, there may have been some
misunderstanding and they apologize for this, The Relief
~ssociation will be calling a meeting within the near future
to discuss a proposal whereby bingo money may be used Lor a
one lump-sum payment into the pension plan, At the present
time, the bingo money is used in three areas. One third of
the proceeds goe~ to the building, one third goes to the
fire truck fund, and one third goes to the pension fund,
City Hall P~r. Slesener also informed the Firemen that the City is a.n
L;xpansion the process oi reviewing expansion of the City Hall, and now
~aith this problem it wi11 be necessary that we look into the
future needs of the City Ilall expansion as well as future
needs of the Fire Department. It was recommended that a
Citizens' Committee be appointed to review these ma~ters,
and the Committee would recommend to the Council which would
be the best method to resolve these problems.
Res ctfully submitted,
~~
~""` ~'s! ~ ~ ..~- ~ °~~
oseph .
