<br /> <br /> <br />Position Title: Permit Technician <br />Department: Community Development <br />Accountable To: Community Development Director <br />Status: Full-time, Non-Exempt <br />Salary Grade: Grade 3 <br />Reviewed: February 2025 <br /> <br /> <br />PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF POSITION <br /> <br />As the front-line contact with the City’s Community Development and Building Department, the <br />permit technician is integral to establishing a positive first impression of the City by providing <br />exemplary customer service and administrative support. Performs front office duties as well as <br />provides administrative support to department heads performing a broad variety of secretarial duties <br />such as word processing, answering telephone calls, and assuming other responsibilities. <br /> <br />MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES <br />Customer Service & Front Desk Support <br />• Provides excellent customer service as the first point of contact for residents, businesses, and <br />contractors via phone, email, and in person. <br />• Answers inquiries related to inspections, permits, zoning, licensing, and general city ordinances, <br />directing more complex questions to appropriate staff. <br />• Assists customers at City Hall, answering routine questions or referring them to the correct <br />department or staff member. <br />• Serves as a backup for other clerical staff as needed. <br />Permit & Licensing Administration <br />• Coordinates and manages the permit intake process, ensuring applications are complete, invoices <br />are sent, and payments are collected. <br />• Issues and processes building and zoning permit applications, contractor licenses, rental housing <br />licenses, and other related permits. <br />• Schedules inspections and manages schedules for the Building Department. <br />• Prepares and sends correspondence related to permits, licenses, and other regulatory matters. <br />• Assists with annual licensing of rental housing and maintains updated records. <br />Building & Planning Support <br />• Maintains and updates the permitting software (OpenGov), including data entry, workflow <br />improvements, and troubleshooting.
