MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
November 1, 1g8g
Mickelberg pointed out that this plan is only a schematic concept.
The next process would be to work with the Fire Department on the
proposed floor plan. However, at this point, Boarman & Associates
would like a concensus on the amount of square footage desired.
Boarman & Associates would also like some direction on whether or
not City Hall addition will occur in conjunction with the Fire Hall.
The Fire Chief stated that the Fire Department would prefer drive-out
doois on both the front and back of the building.
Fahey stated that if it worked on the site, he had no problems with
drive-outs in the front and back.
Scalze asked how the 11,200 square feet compared with the size fire
station in Mendota Heights.
Mickelberg replied that Mendota Heights' station is 10,600 square
feet in size, however, they need to add on additional storage area.
Mickelberg reported that the slope of the property makes a drive-through
station difficult.
Morelan stated that an access drive around the east side of the building
was necessary.
Kroos agreed, pointing out that the City would not want trucks manuevering
the steep grade on Centerville Road when not necessary.
Mickelberg suggested that it would be impossible to develop a joint
Fire Station and City Hall complex on the amount of land proposed,
and an additional two lots would be necessary if City Hall is added
to the project.
Kroos agreed pointing out that additional land is necessary for site
circulation and the additional parking that would be necessary for
City hall.
Scalze asked if Boarman & Associates have included the City-owned land
to the north in the project.
It was determined that this property had been included.
Fahey asked the representatives of Boarman & Associates for a recommendation
on the addition of City Hall to this project.
Based on the amount of land involved, Kroos stated that he would not
recommend that City Hall be included in the project.
Collova asked for an opinion on the combination of the two projects without
regard for the size of the site.
Kroos replied that such a combination is feasible, however, it is
important to keep the traffic circulation for the two uses separate.
Page 3
