MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
Novem6er 1, 198g
of this plan was done, reducing the square footage to 11,200 square
feet.
Kroos outlined the system that is used for determining space needs,
which included a calculation of the area needed for existing equipment,
future equipment, training areas, etc. and the gross square footage
needed is totaled.
LaValle asked if the study covered future needs adequately.
Kross and Mickelberg felt that it did.
Kroos and Mickelberg then presented the schematic plan which their
firm had put together on the Fire Hall needs.
Collova asked if a 6asement was planned under the building.
Mickelberg replied that there was no basement planned.
Fahey suggested that too much space was devoted to the bathroom areas.
Kroos and Mickelberg pointed out that Code requires that an equal amount
of space be devoted to women's bathrooms as men's. Those present
discussed this, and it was suggested that Boarman & Associates look at
how much bathroom space would be required for a building of this size,
and also suggested that the idea of a joint bathroom, rather than a
separate men's and women's be investigated.
Mickelberg pointed out that since a basement is not planned, area has
to be devoted to mechanical uses.
The location of the dispatcher's room was discussed, with Mickelberg and
Kroos pointing out that dispatchers will need a good line of vision
of the front of the building.
A member of the Fire Department suggested that parking for firemen
be located on the same side of the building as the equipment bays.
Mickelberg reported that parking locations will depend on the site.
Dick Boss asked the capacity of the training room•
Mickelberg replied that the training room as shown would have space for
60 chairs.
Boss asked about possible expansion of the building.
Mickelberg pointed out that the site would be set-up so that equipment
bays could be expanded. Mickelberg suggested that there would be
various ways to add onto the building.
Boss stated that he did not like the floor plan that is being presented
this evening.
Page 2
