MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
November 1, 1g8g
Council discussed the facade for the Fire Station building, with
Kroos pointing out that usually pre-cast concrete is less expensive
than block, and brick facade would be the most expensive.
Fahey pointed out that with land acquisition costs, the cost of the
new Fire Hall will be a minimum of $1 million.
Mickelberg suggested that all three parcels under consideration may
not be necessary.
Boss pointed out that all three parcels will be necessary if drive-
through doors are included in the building.
Fahey suggested that Boarman & Associates proceed with the floor plan
for the Fire Hall. Fahey stated that he strongly favored an addition
to the existing City Center building, and it was suggested that this
issue should be addressed by the new City Administrator.
Collova pointed out that estimates for the City Center addition are
$350,000, and the cost of two additional lots adjacent to the Fire
Hall location at Little Canada Road and Centerville Road would be a
minimum of $200,000.
Blesener agreed that Boarman & Associates should do a limited study
of the City Center expansion matter and submit a recommendation to
the City Council. Blesener agreed that Boarman & Associates should
work with the Fire Department on a reasonable lay-out for a new Fire
Station.
Fahey asked for a recommendation by the first City Council meeting
in December.
Council felt that both the Fire Station and City Center addition should
be designed to meet future needs.
Kroos stated that he would work with the City Planner on projected
population figures.
Kroos requested the blueprints for the existing City Center building,
which Council indicated that City Staff would provide to Boarman &
Associates.
Kroos again stated that he would submit a revised contract to the
Council for the Fire Station study,
Fahey again stated that it seems impractical to him to mix the uses
of the Fire Department and City Center. Fahey pointed out that the
estimated cost of the new Fire Station is more than was originally
anticipated.
Scalze suggested that ways to reduce the cost should be investigated
Page 5
