MINUTES
City Council
January 4, 1990
provided for such a unit.
Scalze stated that it was her feeling that a great deal
of square footage was allocated to hallways and the
vestibule.
Mickelberq pointed out that the drawing before the
Council was not a floor plan, but just a schematic for
how the fire station could be organized.
Don Nadeau pointed out that an elevator would be
necessary in a two-story station.
Mickelberg replied that an elevator would not be
required.
Fahey pointed out that the Council needs to come up
with an estimated cost of the project so that the
necessary bonding amount can be determined. The
Council needs to call for the bond sale at the January
10th Council meeting, since it is the recommendation of
Bond Counsel that the City close on the bond by
February 12th.
Fahey stated that from discussion, it does not appear
that it will be possible to reduce the size of the
proposed fire station significantly.
Kroos agreed, pointing out that the City should not
sacrifice the functional aspects of the station,
however, it may be possible to trim the amount of
circulation area and bathroom size.
Scalze asked if it was necessary to provide training
areas large enough to accommodate 75 to 80 people,
asking what Mendota Heights did to accommodate training
sessions at their station.
Frank Graczyk stated that Mendota Heights held their
training sessions during the summer months and moved
their equipment out and held the sessions in the
apparatus bays.
Boss reported that it was Little Canada's duty to
supply training areas as part of their mutual aid
agreements.
Nadeau stated that the station is proposed at one of
the most significant corners in the City and should be
a station that the City can be proud of.
Page 6
