MINUTES <br />City Council <br />January 4, 1990 <br />Fahey again asked where the differences in square <br />footage exist between the Mendota Heights station and <br />the proposed Little Canada station. <br />Kroos pointed out that a bid difference is in <br />circulation areas. <br />Mickelberg agreed, pointing out that there is very <br />little corridor area in the Mendota Heights station, <br />with offices opening into the training room. <br />Kroos also pointed out that there is little storage <br />area in the Mendota Heights station, plus no exercise <br />room. Mendota Aeights also has less square footage <br />allocated to bathroom facilities, <br />Kroos pointed out that the original proposal for the <br />Little Canada station started at 15,000 to 16,000 <br />square feet, and his firm has worked with the Fire <br />Department personnel to reduce that size. <br />Fahey stated that he did not think the proposed plan <br />appeared to be extravagant, but felt that the size of <br />bathrooms needed to be reduced. <br />Kroos agreed to work on that issue. <br />Morelan suggested that the size of the vestibule could <br />be reduced. Blesener agreed. <br />Morelan questioned the measurements of the architect <br />with regard to the Mendota Heights' apparatus bay, and <br />suggested that it was actually 800 square feet larger <br />than indicated. <br />Kroos looked at the plans and agreed that there was an <br />error. <br />Boss reported that the Fire Department hopes to provide <br />enough room at the new fire station so that a paramedic <br />unit could be enticed to locating at the station. Boss <br />pointed out the improvement in service this would be <br />for the citizens of Little Canada. <br />Fahey asked if this would be a unit independent from <br />the Fire Department. <br />Boss replied that it would be, and separate office <br />space and room in the apparatus bay would need to be <br />Page 5 <br />
