MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
January 24, 1990
Fahey stated that he would support the variance request
since he believes it will improve the aesthetics of the
neighborhood. Fahey was concerned with the shallowness
of the lots which will result in very small backyards.
Had that issue been raised at the time the plat was
before the Council for approval, Fahey stated that he
would not have supported the plat.
Scalze pointed out that the minimum 30-foot front yard
setback has applied to all residential development
within the City. Scalze pointed out that most of the
property yet to be developed within the City are
difficult pieces, and felt the Council needed to keep
in mind what will be fair to everyone in the City.
Fahey stated that he would be receptive to a front yard
setback variance for any lot that has a depth of 100
feet.
Scalze felt that the Council needed to be more
consistent in its actions, pointing out that the
request was denied six months ago and is now before the
Council with no change as to the facts.
Upon motion by Blesener, seconded by LaValle, the
public hearing was closed.
Mr. LaValle introduced the following resolution and
moved its adoption:
RESOLUTION N0. 90-1-34 - APPROVING THE FRONT YARD
SETBACK VARIANCE REQUEST AS SUBMITTED BY MR. DON
VALENTO FOR A FRONT YARD SETBACK OF 20 FEET FROM THE
SETBACK LINE FOR LOTS 2 AND 3, BLOCK 3, THUNDER BAY
ESTATES 2ND ADDITION, AND A FRONT YARD SETBACK OF 25
FEET FROM THE SETBACK LINE FOR LOT 4, BLOCK 3, THUNDER
BAY ESTATES 2ND ADDITION SUBJECT TO THE RECOMMENDATIONS
OF THE CITY PLANNER AND BASED ON THE FACT THAT A
HARDSHIP EXISTS AND AESTHETICS OF THE NEIGHBORHOOD WILL
BE SMPROVED AS A RESULT OF THIS VARIANCE
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Collova.
Ayes (4) LaValle, Collova, Blesener, Fahey.
Nays (1) Scalze.
Resolution declared adopted.
Page 8
