MINUTES CITY COUNCIL April 11, 1990 The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by LaValle. Ayes (4) Blesener, LaValle, Scalze, Collova. Nays (0). Resolution declared adopted. FIRE STATION Paul Mickelberg, Boarman and Associations, architect & CITY for the fire station and city center expansion CENTER projects, appeared before the Council and presented PROJECTS schematic designs for both the new fire station project and the city center expansion project. Mickelberg first reviewed the city center project presenting a site plan as well as proposed floor plan. These were described in detail. Mickelberg pointed out that he has been working with the City's building expansion committee on the proposed floor plan. Next, Mickelberg presented the site plan for the fire station project describing access to the site as well as proposed parking plans. Mickelberg then presented and described the floor plan proposed, which is a result of input from the Fire Department. Scalze asked about landscaping of the site, pointing out that as part of the Celebrate MN 1990 program, the City had planned to do some landscaping in the area of the freeway entrances. Scalze suggested that landscaping of the new fire department site would tie in with this plan. Mickelberg agreed, and felt this was the time to address that issue. Mickelberg reported that at this point his firm will move on to design development. The City Administrator pointed out that the issue of construction management is on the agenda for discussion later this evening. The Administrator reported that based on the schematics and estimates, thus far, the budgets for the two projects are still as originally anticipated. Mickelberg pointed out that brick for the exterior of the City Center has not been included in the budget estimates at this point. Mickelberg anticipated bidding the brick as an add-on. Page 5
