MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
JUNE 27, 1990
PUBLIC The Mayor opened the public hearing to consider the
HEARING adoption of an ordinance amending Section 910 of the
GROCERY Little Canada City Code, regardinq convenience store
STORES IN uses in B-1, making this use a Conditional Use rather
B-1 than Permitted Use. The Planning Commission
recommended approval.
There was no one from the general public presenting
wishing to comment on this matter.
Upon motion by Scalze, seconded by LaValle, the public
hearing was closed.
Mrs. Scalze introduced the following Ordinance and
moved its adoption:
ORDINANCE N0. 332 - AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 910
OF THE LITTLE CANADA CITY CODE, KNOWN AS TAE LITTLE
CANADA ZONING ORDINANCE REGARDING CONVENIENCE STORE
USES IN B-1, LIMITED NEIGABORHOOD BUSINESS DISTRICTS
The foregoing ordinance was duly seconded by LaValle.
Ayes (5) Scalze, LaValle, Collova, Fahey, Blesener.
Nays (0).
Resolution declared adopted.
ORDINANCE Fahey reviewed the proposal for a Sign Ordinance
AMENDMENT amendment regulating number and location of free-
FREE- standing signs at shopping centers. Fahey pointed
STANDING out that the Planning Commission has recommended that
SIGNS the existing Sign Ordinance not be amended.
The City Planner reviewed his report dated June 11,
1990 on this matter as well as a graph showing the sign
setbacks that would be allowed by surveyed cities.
Scalze stated that based on her review of the
information submitted by the City Planner comparing
what other cities' allow, Little Canada's Ordinance
appears to be the most liberal.
The Planner reported that the Planning Commission does
not feel the Ordinance should be changed. It was their
feeling that the second free-standing sign allowed aC
shopping centers by conditional use permit should
continue to be allowed in this manner, however, subject
to setting up some conditions that would need to be
met. The Planning Commission was not in favor of
allowing any more than two free-standing signs.
Page 16
