MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
JULY 19, 1990
Station site, therefore, has no access to her backyard.
Mickelberg reported that being a good neighbor, it was
agreed to allow Barrieau access to her backyard upon
occasion. There will be a wood fence between her house
and the Fire Department parking lot with some
landscaping. The Fire Department also eliminated the
island that was in this area to ease snowplowing
efforts.
Mickelberg reported that due to the topography at the
back of the site, some sort of railing will be needed.
Mickelberg proposed a chain-link fence that would be
softened with vines. A brown or some type of color
that would blend in with the surrounding area was
suggested to make the fence less visible. Mickelberg
also suggested that a section of the fence be removable
so that during snow removal, the snow can be pushed off
the parking lot into this area.
Morel~n reported that the Fire Department made no major
changes in the design of the Fire Station other than
the double exterior wall in the apparatus bay that will
create an air cavity and moisture barrier.
Council discussed this change and were in agreement
with it.
Another change that the Fire Department made was in the
lay-out of the kitchen area which Mickelberg reviewed.
Fahey raised the concern of the large control box on
the property and suggested the use of that box for
signage for the Fire Department.
Jim Beckwith, Kraus-Anderson, did not believe NSP would
allow this and pointed out that the wiring for the
control box will have to be refed. Therefore,
suggested that the box be moved back within the
landscaped area proposed at the front of the site.
Beckwith reported that the Fire Department had a great
deal of discussion about the power poles in the area as
well as traffic liqhts. It is proposed to approach NSP
about locating utilities underground as well as address
the issue of the mobility of the Fire Department and
the traffic signals.
Page 2
