MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
JULY 19, 1990
Scalze pointed out the potential use of the area by the
55+ Club. Scalze pointed out that there is a senior
citizen program at the Market Place that draws 90
people, and the solid wall would prevent use of the
Council Chambers for this function.
Beckwith reported that the cost difference is
approximately $4,500 less with the sheetrock wall.
Scalze stated that she did not agree with the change
since it prevented having a large community meeting
space.
Beckwith estimated an additional seating capacity of 35
to 40 if the movable panel system was retained.
Blesener reported that the change was not suggested for
economic reasons. Blesener also reported that he has
met in similar conference rooms with movable panels
dividing rooms, and noise can be a problem if there is
more than one meeting being conducted.
Council discussed the noise consideration, and it was
suggested that cost estimates be obtained for dividing
the rooms with movable panels that would have sound-
proofing capabilities equal to that of a sheetrock
wall.
Morelan pointed out that the City will have the old
Fire Station buildinq that could also be used as a
large community meeting space.
Jerry DeZelar described the interior design proposed
for the Council Chambers as well as the communication
system. DeZelar then described the overhang that is
proposed for the exterior of the building and reported
that it is proposed that the entire building be
reroofed.
Council discussed the type of shingles to be used, and
it was the architect~s feeling that a higher grade
shingle than asphalt will not provide enough of a
pay-back to warrant their additional expense.
Beckwith discussed the budget for the City Center
project reporting that cost estimates are at $480,000
without architectural fees or a continqency. The
budget is $500,000. Add-ons to this amount have been
discussed, which include an irrigation system and some
metal paneling around the entry-way window.
Page 4
