MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
JANUARY 9, 1991
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by LaValle.
Ayes (5) Blesener, LaValle, Collova, Hanson, Scalze.
Nays (O).
Resolution declared adopted.
TEMPORARY The City Administrator pointed out that due to the
CLERICAL maternity leave to be taken by Stacy Urban and the
EMPLOYEE leave-of-absence of Bev Jespersen, the City is in need
of a temporary clerical employee. The Administrator
recommended that Marilyn Huthwaite be hired for the
position. This position was not advertised due to its
short-term duration.
Mr. Blesener introduced the following resolution and
moved its adoption:
RESOLUTION N0. 91-1-19 - HIRING MARILYN HUTxWAITE FOR
THE CITY'S TEMPORARY CLERICAL POSITION AT A SALARY OF
$7 PER HOUR WITH NO BENEFITS
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Scalze.
Ayes (5) Blesener, Scalze, Hanson, LaValle, Collova.
Nays (0).
Resolution declared adopted.
INSURANCE David Seppelt, the City's insurance a ent a
before the Council and reviewed the igsurancepcoveaages
for the City for 1991 as were listed in the City
Administrator's memo dated January 4, 1991. Seppelt
pointed out that the overall premium is down $2,000
from last year~s. It is also anticipated that the City
will receive return premiums from the League for the
years 198g and 1990 amounting to between $8,000 and
$14,000.
Seppelt pointed out the quote for Umbrella Coverage of
$8,974 and asked the Council's position on whether or
not to purchase Umbrella coverage. Seppelt pointed out
the correspondence the Council has from the League
outlining their position on retention of Umbrella
coverage.
Blesener asked how many cases there have been in the
State where Umbrella coverage was used.
Seppelt reported that while there are good reasons to
carry Umbrella coverage, in the past 10 to 15 years he
has not heard of a claim under this coverage. Seppelt
suggested that the City look at its exposures to
determine if the $g,000 premium is justified. The City
contracts out police and fire protection, therefore has
no police or fire vehicles in pursuit. The City Center
building is sprinkled.
Page 10
