MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
DECEMBER 11, 1991
being requested could not be funded. The Fire
Department has proposed this compensation be increased
from about $3 per hour to $7 per hour. The increase
the City can fund is from $3 per hour to $5.50 per
hour.
Fahey stated that the fire fighters get paid very
little for putting their lives on the line. Fahey also
stated that the Fire Department's allocation for
remunerations is very low compared to other fire
departments. Fahey agreed that a workshop was needed.
Blesener pointed out that in other years the City has
never cut the Fire Department's budget, but this year
the department had proposed an increase in the bottom
line of approximately 700.
Scalze stated that the Council understands the Fire
Department's position, but pointed out that there are
no additional dollars available.
Blesener pointed out that while the bottom line cannot
change, perhaps there could be a reallocation of
dollars within the budget.
Scalze pointed out that the City has cut public works
to the point where it is hurting itself. There is only
so much that can be cut from the budget, and stated
that all departments are struggling.
There was no one else from the general public present
wishing to comment.
Upon motion by Blesener, seconded by LaValle, the
public hearing was closed.
Mr. Blesener introduced the following resolution and
moved its adoption:
RESOLUTION N0. 91-12-417 - ADOPTING THE 1992 BUDGET AS
PRESENTED
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by LaValle.
Ayes (5) Blesener, LaValle, Scalze, Collova, Hanson.
Nays (0).
Resolution declared adopted.
Blesener stated that given the City's financial
position it is his feeling that the 10o gambling funds
collected by the City should be allocated to the City
and Fire Department's capital improvement needs
beginning the first of the year.
Page 9
