MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
DECEMBER 17, 1991
night, fire calls during special family events which
require the fire fighter to leave his family, ruined
clothing, etc.
With regard to the washing of trucks, the Chief
reported that remuneration for this work has been part
of the Fire Department's budget for at least the last
10 years. The Department found it harder and harder to
get the fire fighters to wash and maintain vehicles and
equipment, therefore, the Department began paying the
fire fighters to do this work. Once that individual joins the department,
they have an obligation to the City, to the Fire
Department, and to the citizens of Little Canada.
The Chief reported that all members are required to
attend a minimum of 30% of fire calls. The Department
is seeking to increase the remuneration for fire calls
to $7 per call. In 1990 fire fighters received $4.36
per call, while in 1991 they received $5.31 per call
under a split-the-pie system. The Chief went on to
explain the commitment the fire fighters have to fire
service.
The Chief went on to explain work readiness in greater
Page 2
