MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
DECEMBER 17, 1991
Fahey again questioned the discussion about the
$10,000, since he pointed out that the budget line
items only show a$1,000 increase in remunerations and
training between 1991 and 1992. Fahey agreed that a
small committee could make more progress on this issue
than can be made tonight.
With regard to comments on the independence of the Fire
Department, Dick Boss pointed out that because the Fire
Department is a non-profit 501 C(3), it is allowed to
operate its fund-raising activities, which are all put
back into the City. Boss also pointed out that because
of that independence, the Department saves the City
money in terms of the amount of social security
benefits the City must pay.
Fahey pointed out that without the independence, the
Fire Department would lose the ability to operate at
the bingo hall, which has been a great benefit for the
City.
Blesener suggested that it was not good to have the
independent situation as part of the budget process,
and suggested the need for more communication in these
kinds of areas.
Blesener suggested that the committee be established,
and that issue can be resolved at the committee-level.
Blesener and LaValle agreed to serve on the committee,
along with the City Administrator, and the Fire
Department's Board of Directors. A meeting of this
committee will be scheduled for the near future.
There being no further business, the meeting was
adjourned at 10:30 P.M.
Attest:
Page 21
