MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
FEBRUARY 12, 1992
Bidne was asked how many names are on the list of
possible tenants. Bidne reported that there are
currently 150 names on the list. Bidne explained that
often times an individual will place their name on the
list, but may not be ready to make the move into senior
housing for 7 or 8 years from now. Bidne pointed out
that the proposal is for a 92 unit building, however,
if the need is there, the City may be willing to work
with the developer and increase the number of units
slightly.
A member of the audience reported that there are
currently a lot of seniors from outside Little Canada
residinq in the City's existing senior building. It
was suggested that Little Canada residents be given top
priority for occupancy of the new building.
Bidne pointed out that the waiting list the City is
compiling gives every opportunity for Little Canada
residents to occupy the new building.
Bidne was asked how many floors the building would
have. Bidne replied that there are 92 units proposed
with underqround parking. The building would have
three floors with one and two bedroom units scattered
throughout the building. There would also be two
elevators, which would be centrally located. The
building would be sprinkled and secured.
Bidne again suggested the organization of senior focus
groups to begin planning the units and amenities.
Bidne suggested morning or afternoon meetings, and
reported that he would notify seniors of the meeting
schedule.
Roy Nadeau asked about meals.
Bidne replied that plans are to have optional meals
brought in from nearby restaurants rather than have an
in-house meal program. Bidne reported that plans are
for an independent living program. However, as the
residents age in place and would like more services,
these could be added for purchase by residents as they
wish.
Bidne was asked if the building would have decks and a
recreation room. Bidne replied that individual decks
are not planned for the units, however, there would be
a common deck. There would be a recreation room.
It was suggested that Bidne work with Johanna Meath on
scheduling of the focus sessions.
Page 6
