MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
JUNE 10, 1992
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by LaValle.
Ayes (5) Blesener, LaValle, Scalze, Hanson, Collova.
Nays (0). Resolution declared adopted.
SHERIFF'S Lt. Dan Votel, Ramsey County Sheriff's Department,
REPORT appeared before the Council to give a crime activity
report for the City of Little Canada for the first five
months of 1992, comparing the activity for this time
period with that of the same period last year. Areas
which Votel reviewed in detail include death
investigations, assaults, child abuse/neglect, sexual
misconduct, kidnapping, missing persons, fire
investigations, robbery, burglary, auto theft, thefts,
forgery, criminal damage to property, traffic, weapon
offenses, juvenile offenses, misconduct/nuisance,
communication crimes, trespassing, misc.
crimes/investigations, and drug arrests.
Blesener asked what percentage of population Little
Canada had of the total contracting cities.
Votel was unsure of this figure, and the City
Administrator pointed out that Little Canada made up
about 17% of the total contract.
Votel pointed out that crime statics are analyzed and
information on "hot spots" and frequency of crimes
during particular days of the week or times of the day
are given to the patrol officers. The officers can
then patrol these areas accordingly.
Votel pointed out that while there were no robberies in
Little Canada during the first five months of 1992,
there have been two since the first of June. One
involved juveniles at the Middle School, and the other
was a robbery at Hardies in the early morning hours
when the restaurant was being closed. There were
weapons involved in the Hardies robbery, but no one was
hurt.
Votel also reported that the Sheriff's Department
looked at the recent convenience store robbery in St.
Paul to see if there was a possible connection between
that robbery and the 1991 convenience store robbery in
Little Canada. However, it was determined that there
was no connection. Votel also reported on the
Page 2
