MINUTES <br />CITY COUNCIL <br />JUNE 24, 1992 <br />The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by LaValle. <br />Ayes (4) Scalze, LaValle, Hanson, Collova. <br />Nays (0). Resolution declared adopted. <br />ANNOUNCE- Scalze reported that Jan Sherman, member of the Park <br />MENTS Commission as well as Little Canada Charity Plus, Inc., <br /> recently received the Park Citizen of the Year Award. <br /> This is an award given by the St. Paul and Ramsey <br /> County Friends of the Parks volunteer organization <br /> which works for the betterment of parks in the City of <br /> St. Paul and Ramsey County. Scalze felt that Sherman <br /> deserved the award and had done a lot of work in order <br /> to warrant it. The Council agreed and congratulated <br /> Ms. Sherman on her award. <br /> Ray Masman, representing the North Ramsey 500 Lions <br /> Club, appeared before the Council and presented the <br /> City with a$1,000 check towards scholarships for youth <br /> participation in the Super Summer Day Camp Program. <br /> Aanson thanked the Lions Club for their generous <br /> donation. <br />SIGN Hanson opened the Public Hearing to consider a request <br />VARIANCE for a Variance to the Sign Ordinance to allow for an <br />THE MARKET additional identification sign on top of the existing <br />PLACE pylon sign at The Market Place Shopping Center. <br />SHOPPING <br />CENTER Mr. James Stellick, representing The Market Place, <br /> appeared before the Council, reporting that Snyder <br /> Bros., the second largest tenant in the center, is <br /> requesting exposure on the center's pylon sign along <br /> Rice Street. The proposal before the Council involves <br /> the addition of approximately 15 square feet to the <br /> existing pylon. The Market Place Shopping Center" <br /> would be identified with the additional square footage <br /> on top of the pylon, and "Snyder Bros." would replace <br /> the existing center identification panel. <br />Stellick reported that it was his understanding o£ the <br />sign ordinance that a multi-tenant building larger than <br />25,000 square feet in size gets no additional signage <br />area over what is allowed a 25,000 square foot center. <br />Stellick pointed out that The Market Place Shopping <br />Center is approximately 100,000 square feet in size. <br />Stellick also pointed out that the sign ordinance would <br />Page 2 <br />
