MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
JUNE 24, 1992
The Chief also reported that in February of 1992, the
Fire Department made a$109,057 payment on the truck.
Total cost of the truck is $369,795, and the Department
anticipates a$117,438 shortfall. The Chief also
reported that there was an additional cost of $1,772
for the fire truck over what was originally priced due
to some equipment changes that were necessary.
Dick Boss explained the need for some modifications to
the truck in order to meet NFPA standards for 400-450
tip loads. Boss explained that the manufacturer picked
up the majority of these additional costs, with the
Fire Department aqreeing to pick up $1,772 of the
additional costs to cover increased water carrying
capacity.
The Chief reported that when the aerial is mounted, an
additional $87,914 is due the manufacturer. Delivery
of the truck is anticipated in October.
Scalze asked the anticipated shortfall at delivery
time.
The Chief reported that gambling revenues are down.
The Department is attempting to sell the fire truck it
is replacing, and has placed some limited
advertisements. Asking price for the old truck is
$50,000, but the Department may have to take less.
Boss reported that the Fire Department originally
anticipated that it may have to borrow $30,000 to
$40,000 on anticipated bingo earnings at time of truck
delivery. However, with reduced gambling revenues,
that loan may have to be $60,000 to $70,000.
The Chief reported that the Department has never
purchased a vehicle without borrowing some money,
therefore, to borrow for this new truck would not be
unusual. The Chief anticipated that the Department
could borrow from the Relief Association at the going
interest rate.
INSPECTIONS The Fire Chief reported that he has been trying to get
a program established to bring businesses within the
City into compliance with fire codes. This would
involve yearly fire inspections. The Chief reported
Page 2
