MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
JUNE 24, 1992
It was pointed out that there will be the need for
these inspectors to have City-issued name tags.
HEPATITIS B The Chief reported that OSHA is requiring that all fire
fighters be offered the opportunity for Hepatitis B
vaccinations by May of 1992. It is not mandatory that
the fire fighters receive the vaccination, but it is
mandatory that they be offered it. Fire fighters
choosing not to be vaccinated, must sign a waiver form.
The Chief reported that he obtained proposals from two
doctors for the vaccinations. The Chief reviewed these
two proposals, and indicated that the price quoted by
Dr. Al1en, located on Little Canada Road, was the
lowest at approximately $130.0o per vaccination. The
Chief also reported that it is being proposed that fire
fighters be given AIDS tests, and Dr. Allen will do
this test for $24 per person. Results of such testing
will be made known only to the individual tested.
Zietlow reported that he attended a fire fighting
seminar and it was reported at that seminar that by
October of this year fire departments will be required
to make AIDS testing available to their £ire fighters.
The Chief indicated that some fire fighters' health
insurance will pay for the Hepatitis B vaccinations,
and this option will be encouraged wherever possible.
Council noted that the approximate cost of providing
the Hepatitis B vaccination and AIDS testing for 36
fire fighters will be approximately $5,800. Council
indicated that they would act on this request at their
regular meeting following the workshop.
CAPITAL The Chief reported that he has submitted the list of
IMPROVEMENTS capital improvements being requested by the Fire
Department to the City Administrator.
