MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
JUNE 24, 1992
capital improvement items. Boss was concerned that
there would not be enough funding to cover capital
improvement requests.
LaValle believed that capital improvement funding would
accelerate since two of the charities pay State taxes
in May or June, and once these are paid, profits will
aocelerate.
Boss again expressed concern that capital improvement
requests are not being funded.
DeLonais asked if the funding is not there, how the
City is going to get it. DeLonais stated that he is
present this evening because he is a taxpayer.
DeLonais reminded those present that while the Fire
Department performs an important job, there are other
City needs, such as roads. DeLonais reminded those
present of the other capital improvement requests the
city is faced with other than just the Fire
Department's.
Boss pointed out that the Fire Department is an
organization which generates income for the City.
Morelan asked the consensus on purchase of the lift.
Collova indicated that he has some scaffolding that the
Fire Department could use until a lift is purchased.
The City Administrator suggested that he determine a
source of fundinq for the purchase of the lift, and
report to the Council at its next meeting. Estimated
cost is $3,500 to $3,600.
BUILDING The Chief reported that he has been monitoring
OPERATION building operation costs for 1992, comparing those
COSTS costs with 1991. So far this year NSP costs are $3,399
compared with $2,343 for the same period in 1991. A
total of $5,000 has been budgeted for NSP in 1992. The
Chief reported that telephone costs seem to be on track
and should stay within the budget. The same is true
for building cleaning costs as well as supplies.
GAMBLING The Chief reported that he is opposed to the
requirement of criminal background checks for members
of the Fire Department who are not involved in the
gambling operation. The Chief noted that the City
requires that any member of an organization conducting
gambling within the City who refuses a background check
or does not meet the requirements set for that
Page 5
