Resolution declared adopted.
CANADIAN Carl Nelson, Treasurer, Canadian Days Committee,
DAYS reviewed their letter dated July 22nd requesting
FUNDING fundinq for the Canadian Days Celebration in the
REQUEST amount of $2,000. Nelson noted that this is the first
year that due to budget constraints the City has not
provided funding for Canadian Days. Last year's
funding was $10,000. Nelson reported that the
Committee has tried to scale back the event and gear it
more towards families. Nelson outlined the changes
that are planned in the celebration in an effort to
save costs. Those include a two-day versus three-day
celebration, elimination of fireworks, only one street
dance, no carnival but rather children's games, etc.
Given these economies, the Committee felt it could get
by with $2,000 in funding from the City.
The City Administrator reported that there are a couple
of potential sources for the money. One would be the
small surplus that the City budgeted in anticipation of
additional State aid cuts. The other would be the 10%
Capital Improvement Fund. The Administrator reported
that so far the State's financial situation appears to
be fairly stable, but there are no guarantees at this
point that there will not be additional State aid cuts.
Scalze applauded the Committee's efforts to gear the
Canadian Days Celebration to the family, feeling that
this is where the Celebration began. Scalze asked
about police protection at the Celebration.
Nelson reported that the need for police protection has
been cut back given the two-day event and the fact that
there is only one street dance. However, the Committee
feels that the issue of police protection is being
addressed adequately.
Mr. Blesener introduced the following resolution and
moved its adoption:
RESOLUTION NO. 92-7-246 - APPROVING $2,000 IN FUNDING
FOR TAE CANADIAN DAYS CELEBRATION, WITH THIS FUNDING TO
COME FROM THE CITY'S 1992 SURPLUS CONTINGENCY
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Scalze.
Ayes (4) Blesener, Scalze, Hanson, LaValle.
Nays (0).
