MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
OCTOBER 14, 1992
felt that a rental fee would cause the organizations
using the facilities to go elsewhere.
The City Administrator reported that the City has hired
an architect to do an ADA evaluation of the old fire
station.
Scalze hoped that this information would be available
at the next budget workshop date.
Blesener indioated that with regard to the firemen's
pension as was discussed at a previous budget workshop,
the Fire Pension Board met the following evening, and
decided not to request an increase in pension level.
Blesener felt that based on this and the fact that the
majority of the Council supported that $16,500
contribution to the pension fund, the City should stick
with that amount.
Hanson commended Scalze for her efforts in identifying
areas for further consideration.
Scalze pointed out that it is an awesome responsibility
to increase taxes, and she felt the City had to address
the issue in the fairest manner possible.
The City Administrator noted that the three areas which
he identified have already been implemented, unless the
Council was not comfortable with them. The
Administrator felt that the budget document should be
pretty well defined prior to the December 9th truth in
taxation hearinq. There will be another workshop of
the City Council to discuss salaries as well as any
other budget areas that need to be resolved.
Scalze again stated that she hoped the ADA evaluation
results would be ready for the next budget workshop
meeting, so the Council can make a decision on whether
or not to continue the present usage of the old fire
station as well as if it is possible to expand that
usage.
The City Administrator reported that the architect will
evaluate ADA requirements based on proposed usage of
the building. The Administrator reported that it is
his understanding that there is no required time period
for implementing the ADA requirements. The issue is if
someone makes a complaint about the accessability of
the facility, then reasonable accommodations must be
made.
Blesener asked about a change in usage of a facility.
Page 12
