MINUTES CITY COUNCIL DECEMBER 9, 1992 along DeSoto Street during the construction period for additional parking. Scalze noted that on-street parking on Desoto was allowed as a temporary measure last year. Hanson suggested that ballplayers would not linger in on-street parking as they may in a parking lot. Scalze asked the solution to the problem if the Council did not support additional parking in the park. Hanson questioned whether the City should look at purchasing land to the north. Scalze pointed out that the City would have to build a road to access that property. Blesener suggested that perhaps the eastern half of Pioneer Park should be sold if the City cannot use it. Scalze suggested that programming changes would be an option. Larson asked how much of a parking problem there was last summer. Scalze replied that the parking problem occurred on Wednesday and Thursday evenings. Wehrle invited that DeSoto Street residents to a future Park and Recreation Commission meeting to go over the plans for Pioneer Park. Wehrle noted that there is a picnic shelter, volleyball courts, possible additional ballfield, and play structure planned for the east side of the park. Sanders noted the additional landscaping that has been done around the pond, and reported that additional landscaping is planned as well. 5anders felt that the additional 35 spaces proposed on the east side of the park would be needed for the additional passive development that is planned. Blesener did not feel that this was the parking lot that should be put in first. Blesener felt that the first additional 35 spaces should occur on the Centerville Road side to allow for future schedulinq of that side of the park. Blesener felt that additional parking would be needed on the DeSoto Street side when that side of the park is developed more. Wehrle felt that additional parking would eventually be needed on the east side of the park, and felt that no Page 11
