MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
DECEMBER 9, 1992
want to put a band-aid on the parking problem that is
resulting from adult softball. LaValle asked if the
Eli fields or Middle School fields were being used.
LaValle asked if the City was committing to money it
did not have to spend.
Scalze pointed out that the western side of the park
has been developed with more intense uses, and the east
side has not been developed. This is why the Park
Commission is leaning towards putting the additional
parking on the east side of the park, since future
development will occur on that side.
Wehrle pointed out that the Park Commission felt there
were two options to solving the parking problem at this
time, either adding parking or cutting back on
programming. Wehrle indicated that unless Pioneer Park
is programmed, there is no way to determine just how
much parking is needed.
Blesener felt the park could not be programmed until
there was adequate parking.
LaValle stated that he wanted to see the programming at
Pioneer Park expanded, not cut back. However, pointed
out that there are other ballfields in the City that
can be programmed. LaValle stated that he would like
to see the fields utilized on weekends, not just during
weekday programming.
Wehrle pointed out that
occuring on Wednesday e
fields were programmed.
programmed, there would
problem. Four fields being used by eight teams will
result in a parking problem, whether the teams are
adult or youth.
Scalze pointed out that the Park Commission looked at
this issue, and found that while there is usually one
car per adult player, youth teams tend to car pool or
used other means of transportation to get to the park.
There were no parking problems on the evenings the park
was being utilized by youth teams.
Page 8
