MINUTES <br />CITY COUNCIL <br />MARCH 3, 1993 <br />Steve Morelan. Engineers are Tom Ducharme, Troy <br />Colvard and Don Smiley, The Department's Safety <br />Officer is Ron Thunhorst and Training Officer is Dan <br />Liebel. Data Entry duties are performed by Jim <br />Gustafson and Don Smiley. <br />Boss reported that the Fire Department's engineers <br />oversee the maintenance of fire equipment and are <br />responsible for the operation and driving of the <br />trucks. Effective September 1, 1993, the State is <br />requiring that drivers of fire trucks be certified by <br />the State. Current drivers will be grandfathered in as <br />lonq as they have taken the necessary course work. <br />Boss reported that the Department currently has seven <br />fire fighters that are trained as apparatus drivers. <br />Scalze asked if all engineers currently hold driver's <br />licenses with no DWI's. The Chief replied that all <br />engineers hold valid driver's licenses and none have <br />been convicted of DWI's. <br />Boss reported that the Department's efforts in getting <br />all buildings identified in the City along with <br />building contents. This information will be put into <br />the computer and eventually reports will be able to be <br />generated identifying whether or not there are <br />hazardous materials stored within a building. In route <br />to a fire, the Fire Department will be able to generate <br />these reports, thus aiding their fire fighting efforts. <br />Morelan asked if the fire inspection program that is <br />being developed through the City's Inspections <br />Department will aid the Fire Department in gather this <br />information. <br />Boss replied that the information qathered by the <br />inspectors will be given to the Building Official who <br />will then forward it to the Fire Department. <br />Boss presented and explained 1992 and year-to-date <br />incident reports to the Council. Boss pointed out that <br />the Fire Department's fiscal year begins December 1st <br />of each year, therefore the year-to-date report runs <br />from December 1, 1992 through February 28, 1993. <br />Boss reported that since December 1, 1992, the Fire <br />Department has held 7 drills and 3 business meetings <br />which totals 610 man hours. <br />Page 2 <br />
