<br />TIMELINE <br />• March 5 – Application opens <br />• March 12, 10:00 a.m. – Webinar <br />• March 26, 2:00 p.m. – Webinar <br />• April 18 – Application closes at 3:00 p.m. <br />• Late spring – Application review and selection <br />• Early summer – Met Council approval and grant agreements <br />• Projects can take place between grant execution and June 30, 2027. <br /> <br />SCORING FACTORS GUIDE <br />Two main factors are scored when determining grant funding priority: <br />• Supplemental Demographic Index (SDI) <br />• Land Surface Temperature <br />The west side of Little Canada presents the greatest opportunity for acquisition dollars. Some <br />areas qualify for both factors while some only qualify for 1 or 0 factors. A more detailed <br />explanation of funding allocation is attached (scoring factors map guide). <br /> <br />BUDGET IMPACT <br />Funds have been budgeted in the Capital Improvement Plan for removal and replacement of ash <br />trees infected with EAB in City Parks, Right of Way and City Property. Current project estimates <br />are $30,000 per year for removal and replacement of ash trees. <br /> <br />The grant application and required supporting documents are being completed and compiled by <br />internal staff. Funds for this project were budgeted in the Capital Improvement Fund – Project <br />Number Parks 71. <br /> <br />NEXT STEPS <br />• April 9 – Little Canada City Council approval of Resolution of Support <br />• April 16 – Metropolitan Council Community Tree Planting grant final submittal <br />• Early Summer 2025 – Grant award notifications <br /> <br />PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION <br />At the April Parks and Recreation Commission meeting, a motion to recommend that the City <br />Council adopt a Resolution of Support to be submitted with the application for the Metropolitan <br />Council Community Tree Planting Program for improved tree canopy within the city was passed. <br /> <br />STAFF RECOMMENDATION <br />Staff recommends the City Council adopt a Resolution of Support to be submitted with the grant <br />application for the Metropolitan Council Community Tree Planting Program to improve the tree <br />canopy within the city. <br /> <br />ATTACHMENTS <br />• Resolution of Support for submittal of a grant application to the Met Council Community <br />Tree Planting Program <br />• Scoring Factors Map Guide
