CITY OF LITTLE CANADA <br />COUNTY OF RAMSEY <br />STATE OF MINNESOTA <br /> <br />RESOLUTION 2025-4-XX <br /> <br />RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY OF LITTLE CANADA’S <br />APPLICATION TO THE METROPOLITAN COUNCILS’ <br />COMMUNITY TREE PLANTING PROGRAM <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Council is soliciting applications for the Community Tree Planting <br />Program to support tree canopy regionally; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Community Tree Planting Grants provide funding to cities, townships, counties, <br />and regional park implementing agencies for projects that improve the region’s tree canopy; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City of Little Canada is submitting a grant application to the Metropolitan <br />Council to remove and plant shade trees on public land to provide environmental benefits, <br />replacing trees lost to forest pests, disease, or storms, and establishing a more diverse community <br />forest, better able to withstand disease and forest pests within the City of Little Canada; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City of Little Canada will focus the project on removing and replacing ash trees <br />that pose significant public safety concerns and provide greater tree canopy within census block <br />groups with a supplemental demographic index score in the 70th percentile or higher within the <br />city; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City of Little Canada is requesting grant funding in the amount of $60,000.00 <br />for this project which does not require an organizational match; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City of Little Canada acknowledges that project must be complete by June 30, <br />2027. <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Little <br />Canada; that <br /> <br />1. If the City of Little Canada is awarded a grant by the Metropolitan Council, the City of <br />Little Canada agrees to accept the grant award and may enter into an agreement with the <br />State of Minnesota for the above referenced project; and <br /> <br />2. The City of Little Canada will comply with all applicable laws, environmental <br />requirements and regulations as stated in the grant agreement, and <br /> <br />3. The City of Little Canada hereby assures a 3-year Maintenance Plan to ensure trees <br />remain healthy; and <br />
