MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
MAY 26, 1993
charities would be subleasing the concessions and
gaining additional revenue from that, the picture is
even better.
Betty Strohbeen reported that Lake Owasso was paying
close to $400 per session and are still in compliance
by $113,000. Strohbeen reported that other
organizations were paying about $70 per session less
than Lake Owasso.
Short stated that if the City determines a 12,000
square foot ceiling for the bingo hall, a$300 per
session rent would be the maximum. Short reported that
it has been Mover's Warehouse position that although
the bingo hall is a four-walled building, they would
figure out what to do with the square footage in excess
of 12,000. However, all the organizations would have
to agree to a uniform square footage and 10,000 square
feet could not be rented out on Monday evenings, for
example, and a different amount rented out on another
evening.
Matson reported that he and Short have sat down and
looked at ways to cut costs, but no firm proposals came
out of those discussions. Matson reported that there
needs to be a consensus of all the organizations, or
cost-cutting measures will not work.
Betty Matson pointed out the length of the hall and the
fact that even when attendance is low, a certain number
of staff are needed just to service the people spread
throughout the hall.
Matson reported that there are nights when there are 5
people in the no smoking room, but that room must still
be staffed to service those people.
Short reported that over the summer attendance will be
down at the hall, but there are also very high
attendance days when there are 400 people at the hall
and the organizations make a lot of money.
LaValle asked the square footage of the concession area
at LCBH.
Joe Vitale replied that the concessions have been
expanded from 420 square feet to about 700.
Pedersen suggested that there was a market rate for
building rental plus services and asked what that rate
amounted to based on number of sessions at the hall.
Short estimated the base market rate at $6.00 to $10.50
Page 6
